Smitty

July 18, 2017 by Be Loud! Sophie

We’re so thrilled that on July 1, Dr. Andrew Smitherman (“Smitty”) joined UNC’s Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) program as its Medical Director. Dr. Smitherman is a pediatric oncologist with a particular interest in improving clinical care for this 13-30 age group. His research focus includes survivorship care and the aging of cells due to chemotherapy.

He will work closely with Lauren Lux, the AYA Program Director, who continues to provide exceptional personalized support to young adults living with cancer at UNC.

This is an amazing team for Be Loud! and for UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center! (And an amazing photo by Dr. Ian Davis!)
