About the Bands
Friday night features an incredible bill of bands that have made Chapel Hill such a great home for music for years. Soulful honky tonk heroes John Howie Jr. & The Rosewood Bluff kick it all off, followed by Southern Culture on the Skids. SCOTS have been blowing minds since 1983 with their greasy mix of surf, rockabilly, R&B and country fried garage with a side of psych. The evening draws to a close with the Neil Diamond Allstars, who have paid tribute to the man, the myth since 1995. That’s twenty years of sweat and swagger. Wait, that’s not all for Friday…Chicken Wire Gang have reformed for a few choice shows in 2015 and will be performing two short sets in the Back Room in between the Cradle performances. Incredible!
Saturday night features reunions by two of our areas’s most beloved bands and a (probably) one-time-only appearance by an intergalactic supergroup. Cold-wave rockers The Veldt take the stage first, bringing their guitar-drenched soul-pop to Carrboro for the first time in years. Next up is the vintage line-up of Dillon Fence. Blue-eyed soul meets unabashed pop rock with hooks galore. And then there’s Preeesh! This part will remain a bit of a mystery until showtime, but suffice it to say that there will be musicians from some your favorite bands playing some of your favorite songs by some of your other favorite bands. And you will smile and you will dance and you will love it.
Saturday afternoon is a family-friendly celebration of our incredible music community. Split between the Cradle Main Stage and the Backroom, we’ll be showcasing two high school bands from this Spring’s Be Loud! Showcase, Some Antics and The Vernacular. Spoken word poet Will McInerney will remind us all that the human voice is the most powerful instrument of all. Seamus Kenney’s Flash Chorus will unite and ignite the crowd, teaching us all to sing one very special song. One of the killer bands from Girls Rock NC, Lily & Molly James, will shred. And then get ready to shake, shake, shake to the unstoppable pop tribute band, Skinny Bag of Sugar. Whew.
